I Don't read!?

I work in clothing retail. That's a great way of saying that I fold clothes, talk to people, run a cash register, and get paid. It's an easy and normally fun job.
The only problem is that about half of the people who come into my store are complete and total retards, and this is where my story/rant begins...
So i was running the cash register @ work the day after i had watched the new harry potter movie. I was having fun talking to some customers about HP6, finished ringing them up and started taking care of the next customer. She asked what movie I had been talking about so I told her it was HP6. I asked her if she had seen it yet, she said no but she had heard that the ending sucked. I asked her if she had read the book and I was rewarded with an answer that only a truly snotty b*tch can give.
"I DON'T READ, THAT'S DUMB!" ignorant, angry, and stupidly said with a look on her face like I had just asked her if she ever lit her hair on fire for fun.
The sad part is that I have heard this statment and others like it many times before in the MOA. I am thouroughly confused and disapointed by these statments. The human race has fought tooth and nail for ways to leave ideas behind for future generations. The simplest, most popular, and cheapest way found to do this is in literature, ie: books.
Al little as 200 years ago if you said that you DON'T (not Can't) read, you would have been at the very least laughed out of town and called a squandering fool. Yet in today's culture it is cool to squander gifts, waste resources, ruin reputations, and in general wreak as much havoc as possible. Meanwhile those few who actually try to make a deteriorating situation better get laughed at and are considered the fools.
With so much wrong in our culture, all of you who read this should keep in mind that children's attitudes toward life are a direct result of their parenting and home life. Especially in the early stages of development.
In short you parents of the socially backwards, future destructors of the american nation. You should all send your children into the middle of a 50 or more mile thick woods and watch darwinism in action. I'm not saying that all kids who read can make it out of the woods alive but i'd bet on a kid who reads in almost any situation versus a mental infant.
Thank you for Reading :) & have a great day :)
